Cumbria Arts in Education
Cumbria Arts in Education is a charitable trust that exists to increase the opportunities for young people in Cumbria to realise their creative potential through the support of professional artists and cultural organisations. Involvement with the Climate Change Explorer has provided the opportunity to work with project partners Helix Arts, the Environmental Change Network, Dowdales School and Drop Zone centre. New media artists Pete Rogers, Adam Clarke and Lorraine Berry have collaborated with scientists and then used fresh and innovative approaches, either through their own artistic works or when working with young people from Dowdales School and Drop Zone, to communicate messages about climate change.
Shoreline Films, alongside young people from Dowdales School and Drop Zone, have created the film ‘Cecil and the Penguins’. During the whole film making process – and when working with the new media artists – young people have undergone their own exploration of climate change. This is the most challenging, but also the most important aspect of the project. It’s their future and their world!
