Environmental Change Network

The UK's Environmental Change Network is a long-term environmental monitoring programme coordinated by the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology. We collect data on over 250 variables, ranging from climate to rainfall chemistry and populations of plants and animals. We do this at 57 land and freshwater sites around the country and we've been collecting data for about 15 years. ECN provides scientific advice and data to the Climate Change Explorer project. We have supported the artists to understand the science behind climate change as well as some of the impacts it is having on our environment.

As part of the project, Lorraine Berry was commissioned by ECN to produce her own creative work inspired by data from the ECN sites. Although ECN is a scientific monitoring and research programme, we believe it is very important for people - and especially young people - to understand what we do and what we are discovering about our changing environment. We look at the past to help us understand the future, young peoples' future. This is why we helped launched the Climate Change Explorer project and have supported it ever since.
