Project History

Climate Change Explorer Logo

Climate Change Explorer was born in 2004 when members of Helix Arts, Cumbria Arts in Education and Dowdales school met to talk about developing a programme for artist Pete Rogers to work with youth and teachers in the school around the theme of Climate Change.

Since then the project has gone from strength to strength and its activities have developed way beyond the initial idea.

Climate Change Explorer is currently in its second phase of development. Phase I brought the issue to a group of kids in Cumbria, and generated an artist-led website, an interactive Pod, climate change Infowall and educational resources.

In Phase II, partners in the North West and North East of England, with substantial financial support from Defra, will develop a film, made by young people with help from BAFTA Award-winning Shoreline Films. Artists, students and scientists will also work together to create new creative works. These and the film will be extensively toured in order to raise awareness of - and change attitudes towards - climate change.
