Progress is being made...
As a new member of staff at Helix, its been very interesting to come in and deliver this project.
We've reworked some aspects of the project, and this is where we're up to:
An artist (Adam Clarke) has been working at Dowdales school in Cumbria, delivering workshops with pupils, producing new artwork to go onto the website: www.climatechangeexplorer.co.uk.
A film company - Shoreline Films - is working with pupils at Dowdales and a youth centre called Dropzone to make a film on climate change.
Another artist (Lorraine Berry) is working on a commission for scientists at the ECN network in Lancaster. She's working on an idea to use ECN data on Climate Change to make sound sculptures.
We've designed a programme of arts activities - film making, dance, music and graffiti arts- which will be delivered with pupils at Mortimer School in South Tyneside. We're just in the process of recruiting artists for that work.
We've contracted an external organisation to help us use the existing arts work and practice to devleop curriculum materials that schools can use to teach climate change in a creative way. We should be ready to pilot those in September.
